Okoboji City Council Reviews Conceptual Plans For Renovations To A City Park On East Lake Okoboji
(Okoboji) - Some major improvements are in the planning stages for a park in Okoboji thanks to the Imagine Iowa Great Lakes group. City Administrator Michael Meyers
presented conceptual plans for the project at East Lake Okoboji Park at Tuesday's Okoboji City Council meeting. The park is just south of the Hattie Elston Boat Ramp on the east side of
Highway 71 across from Kum 'n Go.
"This is a very conceptual plan at this point but kind of creating a children's play area, a green space for picnics and whatever else they want to do, an extension
of the public dock and some clearing of the brush on the lakeshore to really open that up and give big views of East Lake Okoboji from the trail, from Highway 71, etcetra. So it's a high impact, low
cost project, in my opinion. Some of the concerns that were brought up were related to parking, I know that was a concern.
If our priority is to make it look nice for bike traffic, boat traffic, my initial reservations regarding parking I think are being reduced. I think we
ought to commit more to the bike trail and the pedestrian aspects of it."
Meyers added he's acting as a liaison between the city and the Imagine Iowa Great Lakes group. He said they've also been working closely with 17 Oaks
Condominiums, which borders the park to the south.
